The people of Hvar followed this year's 36th International New Year's Regatta with particular emotion. After the grim spring announcements from the HJS about the fate of the New Year's Regatta, things fell into place in the autumn — this year the regatta was declared the Open Championship of Croatia in the Optimist class, and the new HJS leadership, headed by president Ana Mrak Taritaš, gave the regatta its full support.
The icing on the cake was the superb performance of our own Hvar native and Mornar sailor Filip Jurišić, who with excellent sailing in the Laser Standard class took first place on the very first day and never let it go until the end of the regatta.
Filip stressed that he is especially happy about this victory on "home ground", both for himself and for his parents, to whom he dedicates the win — they too sailed in this regatta over its rich history.
