Sailing Club Zvir was founded in 1951 in Hvar. Since then it has raised generations of sailors, organized international regattas and promoted sailing as a way of island life.

The club is best known for the International New Year's Regatta, first sailed in 1975 on the initiative of Zdenko Roić — as an international regatta since 1975/76 — and gathering sailors from all over Europe in the Hvar channel every late December since.

Today the club runs a sailing school, ILCA 4 and ILCA 6 racing squads, and organizes regattas.
